Admiration for Amethyst

I have been in an amethyst craze these days. I find it to be one of the most beautiful stones out there. I especially love amethyst clusters. My main issue with it has been trying to find some affordable pieces to incorporate in my jewelry. I finally found some and ordered them with glee! Then the seller informed me that she is out of them and it will take about a month to get them. It was quite a disappointment. Since I still have not received the clusters, I kept on the hunt. Now finally I found an even better deal and they are scheduled to be here Monday! I cannot wait!
Here is some background on Amethyst- A crystal with a mysterious energy. When you see it's unusual purple color, you know it's special. Amethyst has a calming yet spiritually protective energy that makes is good for any type of dream work... lucid dream, astral projection, past life regression, prophetic dreams etc.... It can also help overcome insomnia and/ or nightmares for some people and may help the bearer awake very refreshed and energized.

I hope this will spark an interest in amethyst for any of you or further your growing addiction!

What I've been singing along to

I am definitely in favor of music ranging from early nineties and back, but I do find myself on the constant lookout for new tunes. I am much more selective when it comes to new songs. I often won't like a band or song until I have heard it a few times. The times that I do love it the first go round is when I know it is a new favorite. To expand my explanation of my musical taste here are some bands that make it on almost all my cds and that I cannot imagine growing tired of- Nirvana, Modest Mouse, The Smiths, Talking Heads, The Cranberries, The Shins and The Cure. But lately I've been singing along to Best Coast's summer release, Crazy For You. It's got some catchy tunes and is fun to sing along to while working on Marylou. I recently started listening to music while making my creations and am wondering why I haven't been doing it all along. I will probably burn myself out on this cd eventually, but for now I can't get enough!

Have love, will travel

I love going on Etsy and stumbling my way through shops. I get very excited when I find Etsy vintage shops that are affordable and trendy. Tonight I discovered  Have love, will travel's vintage shop. I put together the image stating "it's love" to show off some of the shops best items as well as a cute idea for a couple. Matching jean tops and unisex vintage ray bans. How much better does it get? Let me know what you think or if you know of any Etsy Vintage shops you love.

Eat your way to gorgeous skin!

Each time I open up my web browser I am intrigued by yahoo's stories. I will probably share quite a few with you in the future. Since I am a licensed esthetican, this article called to me. I am always looking for the best tips and tricks for healthy skin considering it is a passion of mine, besides Marylou of course. Here are some key points from The article, "Eat This for Gorgeous Skin" by Cosmopolitan and posted from yahoo

Lay off the white stuff- Turns out french fries do cause breakouts. But it's not the grease that's the culprit, it's the potatoes. In a recent study, researchers looked at 1,200 natives of an island near Papua New Guinea and 115 hunter-gatherers in Paraguay and couldn't find a single zit in the lot. What's their secret? "A diet that consists almost exclusively of protein, fruits, and veggies," says Loren Cordain, PhD. Absent from their meals: the simple carbohydrates — such as white bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and sweets — that are the basis of our modern diet. These carbs send our insulin levels soaring, and researchers speculate that this sets off a series of reactions that leads to breakouts.

Simple food switch-  Instead of refined white carbs, go for moderate amounts of complex ones like whole-grain bread, brown rice, and whole-wheat pasta (they're digested more slowly and don't lead to that skin-sabotaging insulin spike).

Savor seafood-Fish is a great source of essential fatty acids (EFAs) like omega-3 and omega-6, which reduce inflammation in the body. "Inflammation triggers the cells to clog the pore, causing acne," says Nicholas Perricone. "It also leads to wrinkles down the line." The fish that contain the most EFAs are salmon, mackerel, and tuna (particularly the albacore and bluefin varieties). EFAs are also found in almonds, hazelnuts, and flaxseed.

Simple food switch- Have smoked salmon for breakfast, eat tuna-fish sandwiches for lunch, and swap hamburgers for salmon burgers. If fish isn't your thing, make a handful of almonds your afternoon snack.

Indulge in olive oil- If you avoid fat for the sake of your waistline, your face could be paying the price. "A lot of young women have dry, flaky skin because they don't eat enough fat," says Joy Bauer, a nutritionist in New York City and author of The 90/10 Weight-Loss Plan. If you're getting fewer than 20 grams of fat a day (roughly 2 tablespoons of oil), your skin may not be able to lubricate itself and your body may not absorb enough vitamin A, which your skin needs to prevent premature aging.

Simple food switch- Sprinkle your salad with olive oil and toss in some avocados and nuts. We swear, this won't have an adverse effect on your jeans size.

Trip to Thrift Queen

It is absolutely rare for me to ever have the desire to wear an animal print. Typically I think it looks either tacky/trashy/not my style. I was caught off guard today while I was swimming through the rack and piles of clothing at Thrift Queen. I spotted a pair of high waisted leopard shorts, just my size. I didn't understand why I felt the need to have them, but I did. These were not my only find, I was on the search for lace anything and I surely found lots! I'm off to attempt to make something out of it all.

Nude!

A very popular Spring 2011 trend has been wearing the color nude. I am quite fond of this trend myself, but I have grown a new love through it, nude heels/wedges. I am not the type of girl who wears heel, unless forced. I am in love. If I ever get the guts to wear heels in the near future, you know what color they will be. Great places to find these lovelies are- lulus, urban outfitters, free people & aldo.
